Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN) Releases Top 100 Report
The NRN 2014 Top 100 Report of the largest restaurant chains and foodservice companies in the U.S. showed a total market size of $222.1 billion in sales in 2013, which represents a 3.2% increase over 2012, lagging behind the prior year's 5.6% increase, due to consumer cutbacks and the October 2013 government shutdown. The largest segments are Burger (32.7%), Casual Dining (16.7%), Beverage-Snack (9.3%), Sandwich (8.6%), and Pizza (7.5%).
For U.S. Chain Systemwide Sales, McDonald's is at the top of the list with $35.9 billion in sales, followed by Subway at $12.2 billion, Starbucks Coffee at $11.9 billion, Burger King at $8.5 billion and Wendy's at $8.4 billion. The fastest growing restaurant chain is Jersey Mike's Subs, which made its debut in the Top 100 list this year, by virtue of a 21.2% increase in domestic sales in the past year. Other top performers in the growth category are Yard House (20.1%), Wing Stop (19.8%), Chipotle (17.3%) and Casey's General Store (16.1%).
For U.S. Foodservice Companies, Compass Group PLC came out on top with $10.2 billion in revenues, followed by Darden Restaurants Inc. at $8.7 billion, Starbucks at $8.4 billion, Aramark at $7.1 billion, and Sodexo at $6.8 billion.
